Red Canoe

Red Canoe

Ā Artwork by Harriet Peck Taylor

Harriet's whimsical batiks are world famous.Ā  This celebration of serenity with full moon on the rise, captures the heart.Ā  It makes me want to be in a canoe right now.Ā  A black Bear, a pair of Mallard Ducks, jumping perch and water lilies grace this scene.

Wearing this canoeing t-shirt may nudge you and others to get out on the water more. When I am in a canoe, nature beckons me to notice it. I see the whirlpools made by the edges of the paddle at the end of each stroke. The canoe leaves a wake spreading like a ā€œvā€ behind it. When canoeing at night, I can see the stars and the Milky Way. The moon's reflections makes a trail on the water. One time something made a very loud noise next to the canoe in the dark, startling us. ā€œWhat was it?ā€, we wondered? Was it a large creature- a bear, a wolf, or a moose? Later we figured it had been a beaver slapping its tail right next to us. While canoeing in a light rain on a mirror smooth lake, large drops fell from the tress leaning over the water. Each large drop made a big rebounding drop and then a large hemispheric bubble. While canoeing at night on a wild lake, I need to leave a candle lantern burning on the shore in order to find my way back to camp.
